Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Friday stressed the need for safer streets for women and children through improved lighting and deployment of the Pink Force, while outlining a four-pillar roadmap for building what he described as a world-class Delhi.
Addressing NDMC employees, Sandhu said the vision for a world-class city would require safer public spaces, AI-enabled responsive civic services, zero-waste neighbourhoods and greater Jan Bhagidari as a shared civic responsibility.
The L-G also congratulated the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for securing the first position in the ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign and praised its frontline workforce for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the national capital.
“Our frontline workers are the true brand ambassadors of the city. Their safety, dignity, welfare and institutional support must remain paramount as we build a Viksit Dilli for a ‘Viksit Bharat’,” Sandhu said.
He said New Delhi was not merely the country’s administrative centre but also its face and the first impression of India for visitors from across the world. He therefore underlined the importance of cleanliness, greenery, maintenance and the overall appearance of the capital.
Sandhu appreciated the contribution of sanitation workers, gardeners, engineers, electrical and maintenance staff, saying they work continuously to keep New Delhi clean, green and well maintained.
He also praised the NDMC’s performance during major international engagements, including the BRICS Summit. According to the L-G, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and civic services during major events and sustaining those standards in everyday life reflected the professionalism and dedication of the NDMC workforce.
The achievement of 100 per cent source segregation under the ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign was also highlighted as an important step towards sustainable waste management and a cleaner Delhi.
NDMC Chairman Kumar Dwivedi, Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal, MLA and NDMC Member Virendra Singh Kadian, Council Members Anil Valmiki and Sarita Tomer, Secretary Rahul Singh, Financial Advisor Rakesh Singh and senior officers and employees were present during the interaction.
