A grand ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme will be held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on September 28 to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader and Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Parminder Singh Goldy said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference along with AAP MLA and Youth Wing president Manjinder Singh Lalpura, AAP Punjab Working President Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi and Youth Wing state vice-president Bir Davinder Singh, Goldy said the programme aims to connect Punjab’s youth with the vision of a prosperous Punjab.
Goldy said the Bhagwant Mann government was working to engage young people through youth clubs, sports grounds, indoor and outdoor gyms, ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ and ‘Youth Runs’. He said these initiatives were intended to provide young people with constructive platforms and encourage them to participate in sports and community activities.
The leaders also jointly unveiled the poster for the ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme.
Lalpura said the event would begin at 3 pm on September 28 at PAU Ludhiana. Before the main programme, university students will showcase their artistic talent. Renowned singer Ranjit Bawa will perform during the evening, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will deliver a special message to Punjab’s youth.
Lalpura said more than 1.25 lakh youth had registered for the event so far. He also cited participation in youth marathons in Mohali and Bathinda, saying thousands of young people had turned up for the events.
Shery Kalsi said the ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr BR Ambedkar had been given priority by the AAP government. He said Bhagat Singh’s vision should continue to inspire the younger generation.
Kalsi also criticised the Akali Dal, Congress and BJP, alleging that these parties had defamed Punjab and its youth by portraying the state as ‘Udta Punjab’ and associating its young population with drug abuse. He said participation in marathons and sports events showed enthusiasm among Punjab’s youth for activities aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Bir Davinder Singh said the ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme was being organised by the AAP Youth Wing. He said the youth outreach campaign began with a marathon in Mohali, where 10,000 young people participated, followed by events in Jalandhar and Bathinda. He claimed that 25,000 youth participated in the Bathinda marathon.
Bir Davinder said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had subsequently held a meeting with the Youth Wing team, following which the programme was planned for Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary. He said the large number of registrations reflected the response among young people to the event.
