Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will unveil a bronze statue of former Prime Minister late Manmohan Singh in Hyderabad on Saturday on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
The statue has been installed at Wipro Circle in Gachibowli, a prominent IT hub in the city.
Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday inspected arrangements for the unveiling ceremony and recalled Manmohan Singh’s contribution to the country.
Prabhakar said the statue would serve not merely as a memorial but as an enduring reminder of Manmohan Singh’s role in nation-building, his economic vision, commitment to public service and unassuming leadership.
He described Singh as a globally respected economist who played an important role in India’s economic progress. Prabhakar noted that the economic reforms initiated by Singh as Finance Minister in 1991 paved the way for major changes in the Indian economy.
He also recalled Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, saying his contributions to national development, public welfare and economic stability would remain significant.
Prabhakar said key laws and programmes, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Right to Information Act and the Right to Education Act, were implemented during Singh’s tenure to expand rights and opportunities for citizens.
The Telangana minister also recalled his own experience of working under Singh’s guidance as a Member of Parliament during the latter’s tenure as Prime Minister.
Prabhakar said Singh’s cooperation and guidance had helped him advance several initiatives for the development of the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency. He also recalled Singh’s approach to addressing public issues and extending central support for regional development.
The Congress leader further highlighted Singh’s role in the process leading to the formation of Telangana as a separate state.
He said the Central government led by Singh played a historic role in the developments that began with the then UPA government’s decision in 2009 to initiate the process and culminated in the formation of Telangana in 2014 through the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
The Telangana government has officially acknowledged the role of the then UPA government and Manmohan Singh in the process of the state’s formation.
