Actor Arjun Das, known predominantly for his work in Tamil cinema, has opened up about his character Matthew in the upcoming Netflix series ‘#Love’, describing him as a hopeless romantic who remains convinced that chemistry is at the heart of a meaningful relationship.
The series follows Matthew and Tara, played by Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi, respectively. The two are single and rival dating-app founders who have built their businesses around helping others find love while struggling to navigate their own romantic lives.
Talking about Matthew, Arjun said what attracted him to the character was his unwavering belief in chemistry.
“What drew me to Matthew was how stubborn he is about chemistry. He’s a hopeless romantic hiding behind a chill guy exterior, and he’s convinced compatibility is just a fancy word people use when they’re scared to take a real chance,” he said.
Arjun added that playing the character was particularly enjoyable because of his scenes with Aishwarya, praising the warmth and wit she brought to Tara.
“Working with her made a strong case for compatibility, too!” he said, adding that the series was unlike anything he had done before.
He also credited director Balaji Mohan, producer Soundarya Rajinikanth and Netflix for shaping the series, saying their creative approach helped balance emotional scenes with lighter moments.
Aishwarya described Tara as an emotionally layered, ambitious and hardworking woman who has built her career around the belief that love can be understood and figured out, only to encounter circumstances she cannot control in her own life.
“Tara felt closest to the women I know and admire in real life. Playing her was such a joy, she is emotionally layered, ambitious and hardworking; she struggles, she falls, and yet she keeps building, all while trying to make sense of her own love life,” Aishwarya said.
She also praised her working equation with Arjun, saying their chemistry developed naturally from the beginning. Aishwarya said the series explores a contemporary understanding of connection while touching on friendship, family, ambition and the uncertainty of figuring oneself out.
‘#Love’ is produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth and directed by Balaji Mohan. Nirmal Williams has written the series, with Sharada Subramanian and Shweta Chakravarty serving as co-writers. It is produced by May6 Entertainment Factory.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 2.
