Punjab Police conducted 568 raids across the state on Saturday as part of the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, arresting 218 people and taking preventive action against 175 others, officials said.
Police also arrested eight proclaimed offenders (POs) during the operation. With Saturday’s arrests, the total number of people arrested under the anti-gangster campaign has reached 77,534 since its launch, according to the police.
The campaign, aimed at making Punjab free from gangster-related crime, was launched by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all districts are conducting coordinated operations with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab at identified locations linked to gangster associates.
Police have urged the public to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. Informants can provide information anonymously.
104 Drug Smugglers Arrested Under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’
Meanwhile, Punjab Police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, for the 588th day, arresting 104 alleged drug smugglers on Saturday.
Police said the recoveries included 563 grams of heroin, 202 kg of poppy husk, 1,145 intoxicant pills and ₹7,500 in suspected drug money.
With the latest arrests, the total number of alleged drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 83,936 over 588 days, according to the police.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, police personnel also persuaded 22 people to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Saturday.
