The wife of actor and Bigg Boss 20 contestant Aasif Khan has spoken out about his health condition after fellow contestant Qazi Touqeer mimicked a heart attack during an argument on the reality show, calling the incident insensitive and condemning the abuse directed at her family.
In a heartfelt social media post on Thursday, Aasif’s wife revealed that the actor had suffered a massive heart attack at the age of 34. She said she felt compelled to share details of his medical condition to counter doubts about what he had experienced.
“Yes, Aasif had a heart attack. A massive one. At just 34. It breaks my heart that I now have to share his medical reports just to prove what he went through was real. I never imagined something so personal would have to be made public for people to believe him,” she wrote.
She also explained that Aasif had initially described his condition as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), rather than a heart attack, out of fear that revealing a serious medical issue could affect his career.
“In an industry where opportunities are uncertain, especially without backing, that fear was real,” she added.
Recalling the difficult period surrounding his hospitalisation, she said Aasif had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after a major coronary artery blockage. She referred to the treatment he underwent, including the placement of a stent, and described the emotional toll the experience had taken on him and his family.
“I will never forget being told his main coronary artery was completely blocked, the ICU, the stent, or holding my husband as he cried, afraid of losing the future he had dreamed of,” she wrote.
She further revealed that Aasif had lost his father to a heart attack when he was a child, making his own medical emergency particularly traumatic because of the fear of leaving his family behind.
Expressing anger over the incident on the show, she said the situation had gone beyond criticism and highlighted the abuse the family had allegedly faced, including death threats against Aasif and rape threats targeting his family.
“This has gone beyond criticism. We have faced vile abuse, death threats against Aasif and rape threats against our family. Nothing can justify this,” she wrote.
Questioning the treatment of contestants on an entertainment programme, she added: “Bigg Boss is an entertainment reality show. When did entertainment become an excuse for cruelty? When did disagreements become a reason to threaten someone’s life or target their family?”
The controversy erupted after a disagreement between Aasif and Qazi. According to the episode described in reports, Qazi performed his signature step, which Aasif called boring before asking him to act like a monkey. The argument escalated when Qazi pretended to suffer a heart attack, upsetting Aasif.
Aasif’s wife has now called attention to the seriousness of his past medical emergency and condemned the use of his health condition as a subject of mockery.
