Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra, IAS, chaired a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Photo Electoral Rolls, with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.
The revision exercise will be undertaken in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
As per the announced schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 12, 2026, marking the beginning of the period during which eligible citizens and other stakeholders can submit claims and objections.
The window for filing claims and objections will remain open from November 12 to December 11, 2026.
During this period, eligible citizens whose names are missing from the draft rolls can apply for inclusion, while voters can also seek corrections to their existing electoral details or raise objections in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Following the processing of claims and objections and completion of the revision exercise, the final electoral rolls will be published on January 4, 2027.
The qualifying date of January 1, 2027, means that Indian citizens who attain the age of 18 years on or before that date, and otherwise fulfil the eligibility requirements, can apply for enrolment as voters.
The meeting with representatives of recognised political parties was held to discuss the revision schedule and facilitate their participation in the electoral roll revision process.
The Special Summary Revision is intended to update electoral records by incorporating eligible new voters, correcting existing entries and addressing discrepancies in the rolls ahead of their final publication.
