SGPC Chief Dhami condemns discrimination against Amritdhari Sikh candidate in Raj judicial exam

Amritsar, June 30, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has called it extremely painful and injustice that the government has not taken any action against those who hurt the religious sentiments of a number of Amritdhari Sikh candidate in the civil judge judicial examination organized by Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur.

He said that after the case of Sikh candidate Armanjot Kaur, a resident of Jalandhar, now the case of Lakhwinder Kaur, a Sikh candidate from Ambala Cantonment forced to remove her Kakaar (Sikh symbols of faith), Kirpan and Karra at a center of judicial examination in Jodhpur, has once again brought to light the discrimination against initiated Sikhs in Rajasthan.

Advocate Dhami said that these actions have hurt the Sikh sentiments for which the Rajasthan government has the responsibility to take strict action against the guilty officials, but it is sad that even after the continuous objection of the Sikh community, the government is ignorant and not fulfilling its responsibility.

As per the information, in the judicial examination of direct recruitment of civil judge held last week in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the Amritdhari Sikh candidates were harassed at several centers and their religious sentiments were hurt due to adamant behaviour of the on-duty authorities, thus depriving the Sikh candidates of their right to appear in the exam.

However, the instructions issued for the examination did not include any such restriction of removing Sikh Kakaars.

The SGPC president said that this arbitrary action is a move to challenge the constitution of the country, for which action should be taken by the government against the guilty officials under the charges of hurting religious sentiments and violating the Constitution of India.

He said that the Sikh body SGPC is with Lakhwinder Kaur and other victim Amritdhari candidates and will continue to work for action against the guilty officials by expressing the protest at all levels in this case.

Harjinder Singh Dhami also informed that the SGPC has earlier in the case of Armanjot Kaur and other Sikh candidates, wrote letters while raising objection and seeking action against guilty officials, to Chief Justice and Registrar (Examination) of Rajasthan High Court Jodhpur, Union Law and Justice Minister, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Chairman of National and State Minorities Commissions and now the case of Lakhwinder Kaur will also be taken up.

The SGPC President also appealed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to convene a special meeting of all Sikh Jathebandis for a serious discussion on such anti-Sikh incidents that come to light from time to time so that the governments can be given a strong message.
