India’s shooting campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games concluded with 15 medals after Anish Bhanwala finished seventh in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol individual final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery on Thursday.
Anish, who had qualified for the final despite finishing ninth in qualification with a score of 576-17x, was tied with other shooters on 11 points in the final. However, he was eliminated on countback, with his lower qualification ranking placing him seventh.
The qualification round had seen three South Korean shooters finish among the top eight. However, with only two shooters from each National Olympic Committee (NOC) permitted in the final, Anish secured the eighth and final qualifying spot.
India finished its shooting campaign with three gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.
Indian pistol shooters, however, accounted for only two of the 15 medals. The country won silver in the women’s 10m air pistol and gold in the mixed team 10m air pistol.
Elsewhere, India secured a medal in men’s Sepaktakraw after reaching the quadrant semifinals with an unbeaten group-stage record. India rallied from a game down to defeat Myanmar 2-1, winning the second and third games 15-13 and 15-7 after losing the opener 15-10. Earlier, India had beaten Laos and Vietnam to top Group A.
In canoe slalom, Shikha Chauhan finished seventh in the women’s kayak single final, clocking 193.31 among eight finalists.
In judo, India’s Inunganbi Takhellambam lost to North Korea’s Mun Song-hui by ippon in the women’s 70kg quarterfinal. She advanced directly to the bronze-medal bout after her scheduled repechage opponent, China’s Jing Tang, was disqualified.
