Jaipur, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

At least eight labourers were killed and several others suffered burn injuries after a road construction machine came into contact with an overhead high-tension power line in Chapoli village of Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district on Monday, police said.

The accident occurred when a machine being used to mix gravel for road construction touched a high-voltage electricity wire. The current reportedly spread through the machinery, electrocuting workers at the site.

Udaipurwati Station House Officer Rampal confirmed the incident and said the injured labourers were taken for medical treatment. The identities of those killed and the condition of the injured were not immediately available.

The incident sparked anger among local residents, who gathered at the construction site and staged a protest, demanding accountability and action over the deaths. Police and other officials reached the spot following the accident.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the loss of lives and said officials had been directed to ensure proper treatment for the injured, provide immediate assistance to the affected families and investigate the incident.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also condoled the deaths and called for a thorough probe to establish how the accident occurred and fix responsibility.

Gehlot said the government should ensure appropriate compensation and all possible assistance to the families who had lost their loved ones.

Further details about the circumstances of the accident, the injured workers and the investigation are awaited.
