Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who passed away at the age of 59 following a fatal head injury, had shared a glimpse of his personal interests just days before his death, revealing his dilemma over which of his two favourite Hollywood stars’ biographies to read first.
On October 21, Gupta took to X, formerly Twitter, and shared a photograph of biographies of Hollywood actors Michael Douglas and Sylvester Stallone placed on his table.
Describing both actors as his all-time favourites, the filmmaker said they had released deeply personal and honest accounts of their lives, leaving him with a difficult choice.
“Two of my All Time favourite stars/heroes have both released their very personal and honest biographies. Both copies on my table and one tough question. Which one to read first?” he wrote.
The post has drawn attention following Gupta’s death, offering a glimpse into the interests of the filmmaker best known for directing films such as Kaante, Kaabil and Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Gupta died on October 30 after reportedly slipping in the bathroom at his residence during the night and sustaining a head injury. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news through an emotional Instagram post, describing his death as a major loss to the film industry.
Calling Gupta a wonderful storyteller and passionate filmmaker, Pandit expressed condolences to his family and loved ones.
Gupta made his directorial debut in 1994 with Aatish: Feel the Fire, featuring Aditya Pancholi and Sanjay Dutt. He subsequently directed and wrote films including Ram Shastra, Khauff, Jung, Kaante, Musafir, Zinda and Shootout at Lokhandwala.
His last work was The Miranda Brothers, which he directed and produced. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri, the film was released in 2025.
