Patna, October 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Students and youth affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest in Patna on Friday, demanding the protection of democratic values and the dignity of constitutional institutions.
The march, held under the slogan “Save Democracy – Stop Anarchy”, began at Gandhi Maidan. When the protesters reached JP Golambar, some participants breached police barricades and moved towards Dak Bungalow intersection, triggering brief chaos in the area.
The district administration had erected barricades across both lanes to prevent the demonstrators from proceeding further. A large police contingent, along with water cannons and ‘Vajra’ riot-control vehicles, was deployed along the route to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.
Despite heavy rain and extensive security arrangements, the protesters continued their march and managed to cross the barricades.
Yash Dabas, president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), was among the prominent participants. He climbed onto a barricade and addressed the protesters despite the inclement weather.
Targeting his political opponents, Dabas alleged that some people who now speak about protecting the Constitution were themselves creating disorder in the country. He also referred to the Emergency, accusing earlier generations of undermining constitutional values during that period.
The protest prompted heightened security across central Patna, with police personnel stationed at key locations to regulate the movement of demonstrators.
ABVP activists said the demonstration was intended to raise concerns about democracy and the functioning of constitutional institutions. The march and the slogans raised during the protest brought these issues into focus in Bihar’s political circles.
Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc is preparing to hold a major rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, with leaders from more than 20 parties expected to participate.
RJD Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav said a large number of people were travelling to Delhi from Bihar to attend the rally. Those unable to travel by train were making the journey by road, he said.
Yadav alleged that people were being stopped at several points along Delhi’s borders, including those travelling from neighbouring states such as Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
