Lucknow, October 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Buoyed by the Samajwadi Party’s performance in the recently held Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, party president Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, declaring that the party’s political spectacle had fallen flat and describing its performance as a failure.

“MLC results are just the beginning, the BJP has now become a flopshow,” Yadav said in his first reaction to the Legislative Council election results.

The elections for 11 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council witnessed a close contest, with the BJP winning six seats and the Samajwadi Party securing five, including victories in some constituencies considered BJP strongholds. The outcome has triggered discussion in political circles.

“The BJP has not just lost five seats; it has faced defeat across 50 districts and towns. The message has gone to the public that the SP gained public support but the BJP managed to secure six seats only through deceit and conspiracy,” Yadav said, accusing the ruling party of manipulating the electoral process.

Addressing the media after a felicitation ceremony for the newly elected Legislative Council members, the SP chief alleged that the BJP had attempted to influence the MLC elections through deceit and unfair practices.

He claimed that without the alleged manipulation by the BJP government, the Samajwadi Party would have won those seats as well.

“While the BJP relies on the power of money, the Samajwadi Party counters it with the power of the people,” he remarked.

Reaffirming his party’s commitment to the PDA alliance—representing Pichde, Dalit, Alpsankhyak (Backward Classes, Dalits and Minorities)—Yadav said the SP would continue working with the same dedication to strengthen democracy and uphold the Constitution drafted under the leadership of B.R. Ambedkar. He said the party remained committed to establishing a system based on social justice.

Taking a dig at Gorakhpur, the constituency associated with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yadav claimed that the BJP’s desperate attempts to defeat the Samajwadi Party had ultimately resulted in a setback for the ruling party itself.

Earlier, Yadav congratulated the newly elected Samajwadi Party Legislative Council members and thanked voters and party workers for their support.

He said the victories of SP candidates in constituencies such as Varanasi, along with the party’s strong contests in other BJP strongholds, sent a clear message that democracy could not be extinguished despite what he described as blatant attempts by the ruling establishment.
