Actor R. Madhavan is set to return to the horror genre with filmmaker Vishal Furia, who has brought him on board for his upcoming horror feature film and described him as the ideal choice for the project.
Furia said Madhavan was his first and only choice for the film, adding that the actor had already begun familiarising himself with its world.
“Madhavan sir was always my first and only choice. I’m stoked that he has come on board,” the filmmaker said in a statement, calling him the “true OG horror star” of the cult classic 13B.
Praising Madhavan’s understanding of the genre, Furia said his conviction, experience and grasp of serious horror were rare. He also highlighted the actor’s experience as a writer, director and producer, describing their collaboration as an opportunity to create something different for Indian audiences.
The filmmaker said the team aims to deliver an experience that would make viewers feel fear “in their bones”.
The film will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under the banner of Frostlit Production Limited. Further details about the project, including its title and release schedule, have not been announced.
Furia has established himself in the horror genre with projects such as the Marathi film Lapachhapi and the Chhorii franchise. His recent film Maa, starring Kajol, also featured a cameo by Madhavan.
Madhavan’s association with horror includes the 2009 film 13B: Fear Has a New Address, directed by Vikram Kumar and also starring Neetu Chandra. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil, with the Tamil version titled Yavarum Nalam, the film followed a family whose new apartment becomes the setting for a series of supernatural events communicated through their television.
He was also part of Vikas Bahl’s supernatural horror film Shaitaan, alongside Ajay Devgn and Jyothika. An adaptation of the Gujarati film Vash, it revolved around a family struggling to save their daughter after she falls under the influence of a stranger using black magic.
