Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh shared an emotional moment with a woman police officer during his concert in Delhi on Friday, saluting security personnel for their service and telling the officer that she reminded him of his mother.
Pausing his performance, Diljit acknowledged the police personnel deployed at the venue and urged the audience to applaud their efforts.
“If you are not here, we wouldn’t feel safe,” he told the crowd before saluting the officers and expressing his gratitude.
The singer then invited a woman officer in uniform onto the stage. In a heartfelt gesture, he placed his hand on her head and said that seeing her had brought his mother to mind.
“I get to meet my mother once or twice a year. But when you were standing there, I thought my mother was standing,” he said.
Diljit also recalled a phone conversation with his mother earlier that day, during which she had asked him to take care of himself. He said the sight of the officer had made him feel as though his mother was standing beside him.
The gesture appeared to be an acknowledgment of the wider police and security teams involved in managing the concert.
After the performance, Diljit posted a special message for his Delhi audience on social media, thanking Delhi Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and BookMyShow Live.
The moment comes amid recent public attention on Delhi Police’s handling of protests, including confrontations during a Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led march towards Parliament in July. Videos of clashes between protesters and security personnel circulated on social media, with allegations of excessive force levelled against police. Reports also referred to assaults and misbehaviour directed at personnel, including women officers, during crowd-control duties.
