Mumbai, October 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra, with October 1, 2026, set as the qualifying date.

The Commission has once again extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the SIR exercise, providing eligible citizens additional time to include their names in the electoral roll, correct errors or raise objections.

According to the revised schedule, claims and objections can be filed from August 31 to November 13, 2026. The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by November 25, while the final electoral roll will be published on November 30, 2026.

In an official communication dated October 29, 2026, signed by Under Secretary Sandeep Kumar and addressed to Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission revised the timeline following a request from the state, taking into account earlier orders issued during mid-2026.

The ECI has also forwarded its formal notification dated October 29, 2026, asking the Maharashtra government to publish it immediately in an extraordinary issue of the State Gazette. The state has been asked to send three copies of the published notification to the Commission for its official records.

State authorities have been directed to ensure wide publicity of the revised deadlines so that citizens, voters and political stakeholders are fully informed of the updated schedule.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday welcomed the ECI’s decision. In a post on X, he said, “Another Opportunity to Verify Your Name in Maharashtra’s Electoral Roll! Deadline Extended to 13 November 2026!”

“ECI has urged all citizens to carefully verify their names and details in the draft electoral roll. Ensure that applications for new registrations, corrections to existing entries or objections, wherever applicable, are submitted no later than November 13, 2026. This extended opportunity offers every eligible citizen the chance to secure their right to vote and ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate, complete and up to date. An accurate electoral roll is the foundation of a strong democracy. Every citizen’s active participation strengthens the integrity of our democratic process,” the Chief Minister said.
