Indian golfer Pranavi Urs stepped up her challenge at the Wistron Ladies Open with an impressive second-round 4-under 68, climbing 21 places to joint 12th and strengthening her chances of securing another top-10 finish on the Ladies European Tour.
Pranavi, who opened with a 70, is now at 6-under par after two rounds (70-68) in the tournament being played in Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei. Her second-round card featured five birdies and just one bogey, leaving her well positioned heading into the weekend.
Local golfer Cheng-Hsuan Shih leads the competition at 12-under par after posting two consecutive rounds of 66. Thailand’s P.K. Kongkraphan is second at 11-under following an outstanding 9-under 63, while England’s Hannah Screen occupies third place at 10-under par.
Order of Merit leader Casandra Alexander of South Africa is tied for fourth alongside Chinese Taipei’s Juliana Hung, both at 9-under par.
Starting her second round on the back nine, Pranavi opened with a birdie on the 10th but dropped a shot on the next hole. She recovered with birdies on the 15th and 18th before adding two more on the fourth and ninth holes to complete her 68.
Her consistency was also reflected in her ball-striking, as she found the fairway off the tee on all 18 holes and reached the green in regulation on 13 occasions.
Pranavi heads into the weekend on the back of an impressive run of performances. After winning individual gold and team silver at the Asian Games in Nagoya, she secured a tied-fourth finish at the Hero Women’s Indian Open last week. It was her second consecutive top-five finish at her home Open.
Meanwhile, Kongkraphan produced the lowest round of the tournament so far, gaining 31 positions with her 63, which included 10 birdies and one bogey.
With two rounds remaining, Pranavi will look to build on her momentum and challenge for another top-10 finish.
