Patna, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

High drama and chaos unfolded in central Patna on Thursday as hundreds of Sub-Inspector (Daroga) recruitment candidates staged a protest, broke through police barricades and clashed with security personnel at the busy JP Roundabout.

The confrontation began when police intercepted the protesting candidates to prevent them from advancing into restricted areas.

Although law enforcement personnel managed to push back the main group of protesters and clear the intersection, a large number of candidates remained gathered in the surrounding areas, keeping security forces on high alert.

The candidates are protesting the cancellation of the main written examination for the recruitment of 1,799 Sub-Inspectors. They are demanding the immediate withdrawal of the cancellation order, restoration of the previously declared results and resumption of the recruitment process.

The protesters accused the state government and recruitment authorities of deliberately harassing young job seekers. They said they had spent months preparing for the examination and cleared multiple stages of the selection process, only to see the recruitment exercise abruptly cancelled, leaving their careers uncertain.

Thursday’s agitation marks the second major demonstration by Sub-Inspector aspirants this month.

On October 5, candidates organised a similar protest march from Gandhi Maidan towards the Chief Minister’s residence and the office of the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC). Police intercepted the march before it could reach the JP Roundabout.

The current unrest follows an official notification issued by the BPSSC on September 23, 2026, announcing the cancellation of the main written examination. The examination had originally been conducted in two shifts on May 27, 2026.

The Commission cited unavoidable reasons for scrapping the examination and stated that fresh examination dates would be announced separately.

The decision triggered widespread anger among candidates who had cleared the selection process and were awaiting further developments. They are now demanding accountability from the authorities and the immediate reinstatement of the recruitment exercise.
