A 25-year-old software professional allegedly died by suicide after jumping into Durgam Cheruvu Lake from the Cable Bridge in Hyderabad’s Madhapur area, police said on Tuesday. Search operations were underway to recover his body.
The deceased, identified as Rajesh, hailed from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and was employed at a software company in Hyderabad. He was staying at a hostel in Nacharam.
According to the available information, Rajesh visited Ayappa Society in Madhapur on Monday to meet a friend. He later went to the Cable Bridge in HITEC City and allegedly jumped into the lake.
Following a complaint lodged by his sister, Madhapur police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were searching the lake for Rajesh’s body.
The incident comes just days after another software professional, 29-year-old Archana Chaudhary Malik, was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad early Sunday.
Archana, a native of Uttar Pradesh who worked for a software company, was reportedly in a relationship with a colleague from Uttarakhand for around four years.
According to police, she made a video call to the colleague at approximately 2.30 a.m. while he was attending a function with his mother outside Hyderabad. During the call, she allegedly threatened to end her life if he did not marry her.
Police said the colleague subsequently tried to contact her several times but received no response. He reached her flat at around 5.30 a.m. and found the door locked from inside.
After he alerted the police, a patrol team arrived, forced open the door and found Archana hanging. A forensic clues team examined the premises to collect evidence, while her body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, including the reported relationship and other possible factors.
