Two students preparing for competitive examinations have died in separate incidents in Rajasthan’s Kota, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
A 16-year-old JEE aspirant from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, was found hanging in his paying guest accommodation in Mahavir Nagar-I on Sunday night. In a separate incident, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Darbhanga, Bihar, died at a hospital after being found unconscious in his hostel bathroom.
According to police, the younger student had been living in Kota for around six months to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh said the teenager returned from his coaching centre on Sunday after taking a test. At around 10 p.m., fellow students tried to contact him but received no response. The PG manager was alerted and reportedly spotted the student hanging inside his locked room through a window.
Police recovered the body and took it to MBS Hospital. The student’s family was informed and later arrived in Kota. Investigators said the reason behind his death had not yet been established.
In the second case, the 19-year-old NEET aspirant had been living at Shreeji Residency in the Landmark area for approximately two years.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhanraj, hostel residents and the student’s brother attempted to contact him after he failed to respond to knocks on his door. The hostel management eventually broke open the door on October 25 and found him unconscious in the bathroom.
He was rushed to MBS Hospital, where he died a few hours later. A minor injury mark was reportedly noticed near his ear, but the circumstances surrounding the injury remain unclear.
The student’s family has raised suspicions over his death and demanded a thorough investigation. Police registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code following the family’s complaint, according to the information provided.
Investigations into both deaths are continuing, and police have yet to establish the circumstances behind either incident.
