India captain Shreyas Iyer was awarded the team’s Impact Player of the Series medal after the five-match T20I series against the West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw following the washout of the decider at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The presentation was captured in a dressing-room video released by the BCCI on Sunday. India’s training assistant Nuwan Seneviratne presented the medal to Iyer, praising his contributions with both bat and in the field.
“Tonight the impact medal goes to someone who scored his first T20I hundred and only a few players in India have scored hundreds in all three formats. He’s leading from the front and even in the field, and the award goes to Shreyas Iyer,” Seneviratne said in the video.
Iyer enjoyed an impressive series, finishing as India’s third-highest run-scorer with 181 runs from five innings at an average of 45.25 and a strike rate of 205.68.
His maiden T20I century came in the series opener in Lucknow, making him only the seventh Indian men’s cricketer to complete international centuries across all three formats.
India won the opening and third T20Is, while the West Indies bounced back to take the second and fourth matches. Rain then washed out the series decider in Bengaluru, leaving the teams level at 2-2 and resulting in the trophy being shared.
India’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series in New Zealand, beginning with back-to-back matches at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 22 and 24.
The third T20I will be played at Basin Reserve in Wellington on October 27, followed by matches at Eden Park in Auckland on October 30 and Seddon Park in Hamilton on November 1.
All five matches are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. local time, corresponding to 12:30 p.m. IST.
