Actor Sumeet Vyas has recalled how television and film producer JD Majethia came to his assistance when his mother-in-law was unwell and needed medical care, describing him as a thoughtful and compassionate person.
Vyas shared the experience during a conversation with IANS in Mumbai while promoting his recently released show Chumbak. He was joined by co-stars Sumeet Raghavan, Sandeepa Dhar, Deven Bhojani, Neena Gupta and Manasi Parekh.
Recalling the incident, Vyas said his mother-in-law had been undergoing treatment in Punjab, and the family was considering bringing her to Mumbai for further medical care. With limited contacts in the city, he reached out to Majethia, despite having had no prior interaction with him.
“I have to share a story about JD sir. My mother-in-law was unwell sometime ago. She was getting treated in Punjab. So, there was a discussion that maybe she should be brought to Mumbai for treatment. And I didn’t know many people,” Vyas told IANS.
He said Majethia helped connect him with the hospital, spoke to its representatives and arranged an appointment. The producer also followed up with him several times to check on his mother-in-law’s condition and ask whether everything was going well.
“He had no business doing all of this. Such a fine human being. And never mentioned it. It’s not like he went back to the set. He never mentioned it to anyone,” Vyas said, appreciating Majethia’s gesture.
Vyas also spoke about stepping outside his familiar style of comedy for Chumbak. He said he initially had reservations about taking on a role that demanded a different skill set, particularly one he felt came naturally to co-star Sumeet Raghavan. However, he connected with his own character after hearing the narration.
Chumbak is currently available to stream on Netflix.
