Actress Rashami Desai is returning to television with the new show Sayoneee, but she says she was not actively seeking a comeback. Instead, she waited for a project that connected with her emotionally and gave her a sense of purpose.
Speaking ahead of the show’s launch, Rashami said she had received several offers but chose not to accept them because she did not feel a connection with the characters or stories.
“Maya is not just a character or an imagination. She is a very practical character that I am going to play in Sayoneee. And as an actor, I wouldn’t deny that I received many offers, but I turned them down because I didn’t feel connected to the stories or the characters that were coming my way,” she said.
She added that actors naturally want to be part of projects featuring well-written characters, stressing that her decision to wait was deliberate.
“I wasn’t looking for a comeback on television; I was looking for a purpose. Sargun and Ravi are doing amazing in television as producers, Uttam Bhelavat is an amazing director. Sometimes we don’t know people who are working behind the camera, but they are the ones who will actually help you to reach out to the right audiences and all,” Rashami said.
The actress said she does not regret taking her time before returning to the medium.
“Good, I waited for long, and, you know, it’s good to be honest to your emotions also, kyunki impulsive decisions I have never taken,” she said.
Sayoneee also stars Janhavi Soni as Saanvi and Gautam Singh Vig as Aditya. Janhavi described Saanvi as a warm and nurturing woman whose kindness does not make her weak. According to her, the character stands up for what she believes is right and remains committed to her promises even when they come at a personal cost.
Janhavi also praised Rashami, describing her as a warm and generous co-actor and saying that working with her had also resulted in a meaningful friendship.
Gautam, meanwhile, explained Aditya’s role in Saanvi’s life by distinguishing between being a “hero” and being a true ally. He said Aditya respects Saanvi’s choices, gives her space to find her own answers and supports her without trying to fight her battles for her.
Produced by Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey’s Dreamiyata Entertainment, Sayoneee explores a relationship built around trust, equality and emotional support. The story follows Saanvi as she searches for the motherly love she has always longed for, with Aditya becoming a steady presence who helps her find confidence without taking away her voice or independence.
Sayoneee begins airing on September 23 on Star Plus and JioHotstar.
