Actress, producer and politician Khushbu Sundar has called for stringent action if guilt is established in the POCSO case involving industrialist R. Veeramani, saying the case raises deeply disturbing questions and that influence or wealth must not stand in the way of justice.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Khushbu said children must be protected and their voices heard, stressing that justice cannot be negotiated.
“A child’s pain cannot be bought. Her voice cannot be silenced. Justice cannot be negotiated. And the powerful must never be allowed to believe they are untouchable,” she wrote.
Expressing outrage over the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, Khushbu said such crimes leave children with lasting scars and called for accountability.
She also questioned whether wealth, influence or political and personal connections could have been used to suppress the truth or obstruct justice. Referring to an alleged amount of Rs 70 crore, she said any such attempt would be unacceptable and should be investigated.
The actress further questioned how Veeramani allegedly remained free for years and called for the matter to be examined thoroughly.
“If guilt is established, there must be no escape. The law must come down with its full force and punish the perpetrator and those involved in the crime, without delay,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has expanded its investigation into the POCSO case by arresting Ganesan, a former employee of Gem Granites.
Police said an objectionable video allegedly involving Veeramani and a minor girl was found on Ganesan’s mobile phone. A couple, Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan, who police said were linked to Veeramani, have also been arrested.
Ganesan, Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan were produced before a court after preliminary formalities and were remanded to judicial custody, according to police.
The arrests are part of the wider investigation into allegations against Veeramani, a prominent figure in the granite industry. He has already been arrested in connection with allegations of sexually abusing several minor girls.
The allegations against the accused are subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
