India added two more medals to their tally at the Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday, with Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan winning bronze in the women’s skeet team event, while Jay Meena assured the country its first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis.
The Indian skeet trio posted a combined score of 331 after three days of qualification to finish third on the podium. China’s Che Yufei, Jian Yiting and Jiang Chaoyu won gold with 347, while Kazakhstan’s Assem Orynbay, Zoya Piskun and Adel Sadakbayeva took silver with 336.
The bronze took India’s shooting medal tally at the Games to six, comprising four silver and two bronze medals.
Earlier, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker qualified for the women’s 10m air pistol final after finishing third in qualification with a score of 579-20x. However, the Indian trio of Esha Singh, Bhaker and Suruchi Singh missed out on a medal in the team final, finishing two inner-10s behind bronze medallists Vietnam.
At the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, India won 22 shooting medals, including seven gold, nine silver and six bronze.
In soft tennis, Jay Meena staged a remarkable comeback against Sherwin Nuguit in the quarterfinal to secure India’s first-ever medal in the sport at the Asian Games.
With the match tied 3-3 before the deciding game, Meena trailed 3-5 in the final game before winning the next four points to seal a 4-3 victory and book his place in the semifinals.
Meena will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka and Chinese Taipei’s Yu-sung Chang. Both losing semifinalists will receive bronze medals, while the winners will advance to the gold medal match.
India currently have one gold, four silver and three bronze medals and are eighth in the overall standings. At the Hangzhou 2023 Games, India finished fourth with a record 107-medal haul.
