Actress Lisa Ray has embraced what she calls her “aunty era”, using a recent social media post to reflect on motherhood, womanhood and challenging conventional expectations placed on women.
The Four More Shots Please actress shared pictures on Instagram and wrote about being both an auntie and a mother of young children.
“Where my aunties at? I’m in my aunty era. Oh, but wait. I’m a mom of little ones too,” she wrote.
Celebrating women who refuse to be confined by traditional roles, Lisa added: “Bitch, we’re the aunties who mess with the rules, rewrite the script and still make it to school pickup.”
In one of the pictures, Lisa is seen posing cheerfully, while another features her with her daughter. She opted for a casual look for the outing, wearing a white T-shirt with “Aunty” written on it and blue jeans.
Lisa has frequently used social media to share personal reflections on motherhood, life and the different stages of womanhood.
Earlier, she revisited memories of growing up in the 1980s, recalling the music, fashion and carefree spirit that shaped her youth. Her recollections included colourful leg warmers, experimental hairstyles and the Flashdance-inspired sweatshirt trend.
She also remembered listening to global music icons Madonna and Michael Jackson, while highlighting her fondness for British pop band Duran Duran.
“I DID live through the 80s. Candy coloured leg warmers, questionable hair choices, Flashdance style sweatshirt, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Michael Hutchence. Named my pets after Duran Duran. Summers in Calcutta and long weekends spent cycling the neighbourhood in Toronto. Long drives with the radio blasting and in all that hazy sweetness of youth, an itch of rebellion,” she wrote.
Reflecting on how life has shaped her since then, Lisa described herself as resilient, independent and tough, while acknowledging the experiences and disruptions that have influenced her journey.
“Am I an 80s kid? Resilient, independent and tough? Yup. But tempered now by life’s ruptures, having passed through unchosen borders. Maybe this version of me needs an 80s replay. Where’s the hairspray?” she added.
On the professional front, Lisa Ray has earned international recognition for films including Water, I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen. Water received an Academy Award nomination in the Best International Feature Film category. She was most recently seen in the popular streaming series Four More Shots Please.
