Assam Police have arrested four more people from Kamrup district in connection with an ongoing investigation into suspected cybercrime activities, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 14, officials said on Wednesday.
The latest arrests were made during a joint operation in several areas of Tupamari by teams from Nagarbera and Tupamari police stations, along with personnel operating under the Superintendent of Police of the Boko-Chhaygaon subdivision.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mahsud Ahmed of Tangnamari and Intadul Haque, Habel Uddin and Saiful Islam of Tupamari.
Following the arrests, police teams searched the residences of the accused as part of the investigation into the suspected network and the nature of the alleged cybercrime activities.
Investigators reportedly recovered several ATM cards, bank passbooks, cheque books and other documents during the searches. Police are examining the seized material to determine whether the financial instruments and documents are linked to the suspected cybercrime activities and whether they reveal connections among the accused.
With the latest arrests, 14 people have now been taken into custody from different areas of Tupamari in the case. Police are questioning the accused and analysing the material recovered from their premises to establish their individual roles and identify possible links to a wider network.
Investigators are also examining the movement and use of the bank accounts and other financial documents recovered during the searches.
Officials have not yet disclosed the specific nature of the suspected cybercrime activities or confirmed whether the accused were operating as part of an organised network.
The investigation is continuing, with police expected to pursue additional leads emerging from the interrogation of the accused and analysis of the seized documents and financial instruments.
Local residents have urged the police and district administration to intensify the investigation and identify anyone else who may be linked to the suspected network. Further arrests remain possible if investigators establish additional connections.
