Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, on Saturday said he was not afraid of anyone ahead of his planned visit to Matoshree to personally serve a fresh defamation notice on Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
Speaking to IANS, Salian said, “I am not afraid of any Shiv Sainik. They are human beings and I am human too. I am from Mumbai, so I have no reason to fear anyone.”
On the ongoing CBI investigation into his daughter’s death, Salian said the probe was “proceeding in the right direction”. He added, “Justice will be delivered 100 per cent. Whoever is guilty will be punished.”
Salian is scheduled to visit Thackeray’s Matoshree residence along with his legal team at 4 p.m. on Saturday to serve the notice concerning social media posts by the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader. He has informed the Mumbai Police and sought adequate security, citing apprehension of obstruction or intimidation during the visit.
The move comes amid renewed legal proceedings into Disha Salian’s death. The Bombay High Court recently directed the CBI to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and register an FIR. The CBI subsequently registered a case following a fresh statement by her father. The court also directed that no person should be treated as an accused unless sufficient material emerges during the investigation.
The defamation notice, pursued separately from the criminal investigation, seeks Rs 500 crore in damages from Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh over statements concerning Salian’s efforts to seek a fresh investigation into his daughter’s death. The notice also seeks an apology and retraction of the statements.
Disha Salian, a former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died in June 2020 after falling from a high-rise residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Mumbai Police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report in connection with the incident. Rajput died six days later.
