Uttar Pradesh Police have launched an investigation into the circulation of an allegedly fake and misleading video showing waterlogging at Noida International Airport following heavy rainfall in the Delhi-NCR region.
An FIR has been registered against a Facebook account operating under the name ‘Sach Bolo’ after the airport management approached the police, alleging that the video misrepresented the actual situation at the newly built airport.
Following incessant rain in the region, videos purportedly showing water accumulated in a passage connecting the airport terminal with the parking area were circulated on social media. The footage triggered reactions online and raised questions over the airport’s drainage arrangements.
Airport authorities, however, claimed that the video was fake, misleading and a distortion of the actual conditions at the facility. In its complaint, the management said the circulation of such content could create confusion among travellers and cause unnecessary inconvenience.
The airport management also expressed concern that the circulation of allegedly misleading photographs and videos could harm the image and reputation of Noida International Airport, describing the facility as an important public infrastructure project.
The complaint sought an investigation into the social media content and appropriate legal action against those responsible for creating or circulating it.
Police are now examining the source and authenticity of the video and investigating the circumstances in which it was circulated. Investigators are also looking into the purpose behind its creation and dissemination and whether it was deliberately intended to portray a misleading picture of the airport.
The Jewar police are expected to conduct a technical examination of the Facebook accounts involved, the video and other available digital evidence as part of the investigation.
The alleged waterlogging video also became a political issue on social media. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticised the government, asking, “Will boats now run at the airport? Wherever there is a BJP government, there is massive corruption!”
The circulation of the footage led to wider discussion online over the airport’s drainage and rainwater-management arrangements.
