Music composer Anu Malik recently looked back on his memorable musical association with legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu during the 1990s, recalling how the atmosphere in the recording studio would transform whenever the singer walked in.
Anu Malik shared the anecdote on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer Season 5, where he and Kumar Sanu reminisced about their musical journey.
The conversation followed a performance by contestants Ritesh and Prateek on India Wala Dance. When host Haarsh Limbachiyaa asked the two veterans about their recording sessions, Malik recalled the unique dynamic he shared with Sanu.
“Humne bohot kaam kiya hain aur 90s ka poora daur dekha hain. Jab Sanu studio aate the, toh poora mahol hi badal jaata tha,” Malik said.
He recalled that Sanu would often not listen to the song beforehand. Recalling the recording of Sambhala Hai Maine Bahot Apne Dil Ko, Malik said Sanu would learn the lyrics and place his trust in the composer’s work.
“Maine unhe poora gaana rehearse karwaya, unhone kar bhi liya, aur jab maine poocha ki gaana kaisa laga, toh bole, ‘Arey Dada, agar aapne banaya hai toh kamaal hi hoga,’” Malik recalled.
The composer also expressed his desire to collaborate with Sanu again, praising the singer’s distinctive voice and ability to elevate a composition.
“Yeh mera saubhagya hoga ki main phir se Kumar Sanu ke liye gaana banaunga. Kyunki woh itne lajawab singer hain ki jab bhi aate hain, agar gaana chaar chaand ka hota hai toh usme barah chaand laga ke jaate hain,” he said.
Malik added that Sanu’s voice would remain timeless and promised that the two would work together again soon.
The composer and singer have collaborated on several popular songs, including Sambhala Hai Maine from Naraaz, Bheegi Bheegi Teri Zulfein from Khilaaf, Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen from Baazigar and Tu Shayar Hai from Saajan.
