Amid an intensifying protest by job aspirants in Jharkhand, BJP MP from Hazaribagh Manish Jaiswal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday and sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and JSSC-CGL recruitment examinations.
The meeting came on the 17th day of the students’ agitation, as thousands of aspirants took out a ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march in Ranchi. The protest later witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police, who used water cannons, tear gas and baton charges after protesters breached barricades while attempting to move towards the Assembly.
Jaiswal told the Home Minister that allegations of large-scale irregularities, including the alleged buying and selling of seats in recruitment examinations, had raised serious concerns among candidates. He questioned the state government’s ongoing Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry and argued that the circumstances warranted an independent CBI investigation.
The BJP MP said the issue was not limited to the recruitment examinations but involved the future of more than five lakh candidates in Jharkhand and their confidence in the government recruitment system. He apprised Shah of the demands being raised by the protesting students.
During the meeting, Jaiswal also discussed the law and order situation in Jharkhand, including concerns over organised crime and illegal activities.
He specifically raised the issue of the alleged expansion of the illegal drug trade in areas including Hazaribagh and Ramgarh and brought the matter to the Home Minister’s attention.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Ranchi, where protesting students continued their agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Despite police action, demonstrators remained firm and continued attempting to move towards the Assembly.
