Filmmaker Mohit Suri has described the upcoming sequel ‘Awarapan 2’ as a “long-lost love” and “an old friend” that he deeply missed, as he shared the film’s trailer on social media.
The director, who recently celebrated the first anniversary of his blockbuster film ‘Saiyaara’, took to Instagram on Friday to share a heartfelt note along with the trailer, recalling his emotional connection with the franchise.
“This one feels special. Like a long-lost love, like an old friend you haven’t met in years but still deeply miss. 19 years later, and this movie still matters so much to me,” Mohit wrote.
Thanking director Nitin Kakkar for bringing the story back to life, Suri said he appreciated the love, sensitivity and effort that went into making the sequel.
“To everyone who has worked on this film, most of you I know, have worked with before, and will continue to work with, you’ve done such a brilliant job,” he added.
Mohit Suri directed the first instalment of the franchise, ‘Awarapan’, which released in 2007. Although the film failed commercially during its theatrical run, its soulful music and emotional storytelling helped it gain popularity over time, eventually earning a cult following among audiences.
Reflecting on watching the sequel’s trailer, Mohit said it brought back several memories from the original film.
“Watching this trailer brought back so many memories. I’m sure you’ve added so much more to this world, things that perhaps we couldn’t do back then,” he wrote while praising the team behind the film.
He also expressed his admiration for the cast, including Disha Patani and Emraan Hashmi, who returns to the world of ‘Awarapan’.
“Disha, I am so proud of you buddy. Like always. And last but definitely not the least, my brother Emraan, my hero, and always, always will be. I’m sure you have given this one your all, like you did to me 18 years back,” Suri said.
Mohit also shared his excitement for his brother Vishesh Bhatt, saying he had passed on the baton and was eager for audiences to witness his work.
“Loved the trailer. All the very best to all of you. Everyone, go watch Awarapan 2 in cinemas on 14th August,” he added.
The director ended his note with a nostalgic reference to the original film’s iconic song line, “Toh phir aao… mujhko satao… mujhko rulao.”
