Ludhiana, October 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Punjab on October 20 for a one-day tour during which he will meet the families of three people whose deaths have been linked to their opposition to drugs and express his condolences. In the evening, he will attend the Ravana Dahan ceremony at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana as the chief guest.
Punjab BJP General Secretary Anil Sareen shared the details of Shah’s visit in Ludhiana on Monday.
Sareen said the three families Shah is scheduled to meet have become symbols of the fight against drugs in Punjab. Drawing a parallel with the victory of Lord Shri Ram over Ravana, he said Punjab must now be freed from the menace of drugs.
He added that the BJP had pledged to make Punjab completely drug-free by December 31, 2029, if the party forms the government in the state.
Sareen criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government over the drug problem, alleging that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was on a foreign tour while Punjab continued to struggle with the impact of drugs. He claimed that the state government had left affected families to fend for themselves, while the BJP stood firmly with them.
According to Sareen, Shah will first meet the family of Bikramjit Singh at Sri Hargobindpur Sahib in Batala. He will then travel to Mansa to meet the family of Parvinder Singh Jhota and offer his condolences. Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, had also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah to intervene and ensure justice.
Shah will subsequently visit Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district to meet the family of Gulzar Singh, who reportedly died by suicide after raising his voice against drugs.
Sareen said Shah would conclude his visit by attending the Dussehra celebrations at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana in the evening as the chief guest.
