The upcoming rural horror film Kaali Kheti, starring veteran actor Jackie Shroff, Sharad Kelkar and Neha Sargam, is set to hit theatres on October 23, 2026. The makers announced the release date on Tuesday and unveiled the film’s first poster, offering a glimpse into its eerie world while keeping the central mystery under wraps.
Written and directed by Haris Imtiyaz Khan, the film is set against a rural backdrop and explores themes of family, legacy and buried truths through a horror narrative.
Speaking about the project, director Haris Imtiyaz Khan said the film explores agriculture through the lens of horror, a concept he found both fresh and unsettling.
“For me, ‘Kaali Kheti’ is about examining agriculture through the lens of horror. Something I hadn’t seen before. Something that felt fresh, exciting and also deeply disturbing. The film is a mirror to society, only the reflection exists in a scary and fantastical world,” he said.
He added, “Sometimes this world doesn’t make sense but always feels strangely familiar. Perhaps that is the true horror.”
The film is produced by Sana Khan under the banner of BlackCanvas Studio.
Meanwhile, Jackie Shroff, who has been part of the film industry for over four decades, recently shared a personal memory about his late father’s prediction that he would become an actor.
The actor recounted the incident during the grand finale of the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer Season 5, where he appeared as a special guest.
Recalling his father’s reserved nature and focus on work, Jackie said he had considered not pursuing college after completing Class 11 because he did not want to spend more of his father’s money on his education. He had told his father that he would look for a job instead.
“That’s when my father told me, ‘Son, you will become an actor’. He had told me that, and his astrological prediction turned out to be absolutely accurate in my case,” Jackie said.
