A Counter-Intelligence Inspector was arrested in Ferozepur after police allegedly recovered 3.350 kg of heroin, six pistols, magazines and ammunition from his car, officials said on Saturday.
The accused was identified as Inspector Baldev Singh, 56, a resident of Pattli village in Talwandi Bhai and posted with the Counter Intelligence Faridkot unit.
Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said police had received information about the inspector’s alleged involvement in drug smuggling and laid a trap on the Ferozepur-Moga road on Friday night.
Police intercepted the car, bearing registration number PB 05 AC 6517, and apprehended Baldev Singh. During a search of the vehicle, they allegedly recovered 3.350 kg of heroin, six pistols with magazines, four additional magazines, seven live rounds and six mobile phones.
The accused has been booked under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at Ghall Khurd police station. The case was registered through FIR No. 132 dated September 26, 2026.
The SSP said the investigation would also examine whether other people, both within the police department and outside it, were involved in the alleged drug-smuggling network.
He said the police had “zero tolerance” towards such acts and that no “black sheep” would be allowed to remain in the department.
Baldev Singh is expected to be produced before a court, where police will seek his remand for further investigation.
The recovery and allegations against the inspector are subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
