Former Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) veteran Pinarayi Vijayan has described the CMRL-Exalogic case involving him, his daughter Veena Vijayan and her husband P.A. Mohammed Riyas as a politically motivated attempt to target him and the CPI(M).
“This father has seen many such attempts,” Vijayan said while addressing an extended CPI(M) district committee meeting in Alappuzha, adding that he was unfazed by the developments and had faced similar attacks throughout his political career.
Vijayan maintained that Exalogic had received payments for services rendered and alleged that the RSS and BJP were behind the move. He also accused the Congress of joining hands with the BJP to politically corner the CPI(M).
“The case against Veena was raised in the manner of saying, ‘we are not looking at you, we are looking at your father’,” he said.
The remarks come amid a preliminary Crime Branch inquiry into alleged financial transactions between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Exalogic. The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that CMRL paid about Rs 2.78 crore to Exalogic for IT consultancy services and has sought action under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The allegations have not been established through a judicial process.
Kerala Police has constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team to conduct the preliminary inquiry before any decision on registering an FIR.
Vijayan also criticised the Election Commission, alleging that its credibility had suffered and accusing the Chief Election Commissioner of taking unilateral positions. He said protests against such actions would intensify.
He further criticised census procedures, alleging concerns over privacy, and said states that had implemented population-control measures should not suffer losses during delimitation.
The Alappuzha meeting is part of the CPI(M)’s plan to hold extended district committee meetings across all 14 districts following its recent state-level meeting in Kozhikode.
