Megastar Amitabh Bachchan remembered his mother, Teji Bachchan, on her birth anniversary on Wednesday, describing her as a “symbol of inspiration, morale, patience” and saying she continues to live in his heart.
Teji Bachchan was born on August 12, 1914. On her birth anniversary, Amitabh shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.
In a post on X, the actor wrote: “August 12, Mother’s Birthday! Symbol of inspiration, morale, patience — a complete vast world forever residing in the heart.”
In a separate post on his personal blog, Bachchan explained why he chose not to share a photograph of his mother on the occasion.
He wrote in Hindi that he would not post a picture because someone who resides forever in the heart cannot be captured in a still image.
Teji Bachchan was the wife of celebrated Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and the mother of Amitabh and his younger brother Ajitabh Bachchan. She married Harivansh Rai Bachchan in 1941 and remained associated with literary and cultural circles.
She was also involved in theatre and participated in stage productions, including a Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Teji Bachchan died in Mumbai on December 21, 2007, at the age of 93, a few months after her grandson Abhishek Bachchan married actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
While Ajitabh largely stayed away from the film industry and pursued a career in business, Amitabh went on to become one of the most influential figures in Hindi cinema.
The veteran actor, who has spent more than five decades in the entertainment industry, is currently hosting the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
