India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will undergo another fitness test in two days after failing his assessment on Sunday, with his participation in the upcoming New Zealand tour still subject to clearance.
Pant suffered a side strain during the Irani Cup while leading Rest of India against Jammu and Kashmir. He has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for around 10 days as part of his recovery.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, if Pant clears the next test, he could join India A for the third multi-day match against New Zealand A, beginning November 7 in Lincoln. He was named in the squad for the three four-day games but missed the first two due to his recovery. Kumar Kushagra was named as his replacement, while captain Dhruv Jurel kept wickets.
Pant is also part of India’s squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand, starting November 19. His availability for the series will depend on fitness clearance.
Meanwhile, India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly left for New Zealand and is likely to feature in the third multi-day game against New Zealand A as preparation for the Test series. He was rested for India’s home white-ball series against the West Indies and the subsequent away white-ball series against New Zealand.
The BCCI has managed Bumrah’s workload ahead of the New Zealand Tests, which are considered important for India’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship final. He last played international cricket in the Asian Games final and had been training at the BCCI CoE last week.
