Music composer Himesh Reshammiya has credited Salman Khan and filmmaker David Dhawan for playing crucial roles in shaping his career in films and music.
Speaking on film trade expert Komal Nahta’s podcast Game Changers: The Music Series, Himesh said he was doing well as a television producer before Salman encouraged him to explore cinema and film music.
Recalling Salman’s support, he said, “If Salman Bhai had never given me a break, there is a possibility that I would never have wanted to struggle. I was doing well in television serials, so why would I go out and sell music? The songs were genuinely superhits”.
Himesh also credited David Dhawan for recognising his music when he was working on two songs for a Salman Khan film. He recalled that Dhawan listened to the tracks and finalised all the songs for Dulaara within 15 minutes, allowing him to work as the film’s solo composer.
He said this opportunity was followed by projects with Ratan Jain and Abbas-Mustan.
Recalling the making of Tere Naam, Himesh said the team wanted the lead character to have a brooding, Devdas-like personality rather than appear cheerful.
“That’s how Tere Naam happened. That is why I always say it’s important to jam”, he added.
