BJP leaders on Friday criticised Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition parties over their campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing them of spreading misinformation and undermining the credibility of constitutional institutions.

BJP leader Ram Kadam alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s actions were damaging the reputation of institutions such as the judiciary and the Election Commission of India (ECI).

“Rahul Gandhi’s conduct, character and recent actions are an insult to constitutional institutions and damage their reputation,” Kadam said, accusing the Opposition of putting political pressure on constitutional bodies while claiming to uphold the Constitution.

He urged those with objections to the electoral roll revision to submit evidence and suggestions through the prescribed process rather than resorting to protests. Kadam also pointed to the reported extension of the deadline for filing claims and objections, saying voters whose names were missing could raise their concerns.

Chhattisgarh Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb also attacked the Congress-led campaign, accusing the party of spreading confusion and disturbing the country’s peaceful atmosphere. Referring to the Constitution drafted under the leadership of B.R. Ambedkar, he said people would not allow attempts to undermine democratic values.

BJP Telangana president Ramchander Rao, meanwhile, questioned the Congress’s allegations of voter deletions. Citing remarks by Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Rao claimed that the deleted votes were genuine and demanded an explanation from the Congress for what he described as misinformation.

Rao said people whose names had been removed from electoral rolls could apply for re-inclusion by submitting proof of residence and any one of the 12 identity documents recognised by the ECI.

The BJP leaders’ remarks came ahead of the Congress-led Opposition’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The parties are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise.

Security preparations have also begun at the 12-acre venue, with police personnel positioning themselves around the ground and installing baggage-screening equipment and metal detectors ahead of the rally.
