Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a hike of Rs 35 per quintal in sugarcane prices over the next two years, providing financial relief to sugarcane growers across the state.
Under the revised rates, farmers will receive Rs 430 per quintal during the 2026-27 season, followed by a further increase to Rs 450 per quintal in 2027-28.
The Chief Minister said the sugarcane price stood at Rs 415 per quintal in 2025-26. It will increase by Rs 15 to Rs 430 per quintal in 2026-27, followed by another hike of Rs 20 per quintal in 2027-28. The cumulative increase over the two years will thus amount to Rs 35 per quintal.
Highlighting the financial benefits for farmers, Saini said the average sugarcane yield generally ranges between 700 and 800 quintals per hectare, equivalent to approximately 283 to 324 quintals per acre.
At this production level, the cumulative price increase of Rs 35 per quintal by 2027-28 is expected to generate additional income of approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,300 per acre per season compared with the price prevailing in 2025-26.
The Chief Minister said farmers’ organisations had raised concerns during recent interactions with him over increasing cultivation costs, particularly due to rising prices of diesel, labour and fertilisers.
He said increasing the sugarcane price to Rs 450 per quintal would help growers offset the additional financial burden arising from higher input costs.
Saini added that the enhanced prices would encourage farmers to continue cultivating sugarcane, boost production and ensure adequate supplies for sugar mills, enabling them to operate at full capacity.
He said announcing sugarcane prices for the next two seasons in advance would provide greater certainty to farmers and help them plan their cultivation activities more effectively.
Amid a national-level shortage of sugarcane, the decision would also encourage farmers to continue growing the crop rather than shift to other alternatives, the Chief Minister said.
