Batting all-rounder Saif Zaib will leave Northamptonshire after a 13-year association with the club, despite having one year remaining on his contract, the county side confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Zaib, who made his List A debut for Northamptonshire in 2014, has made more than 200 appearances for the club. He informed the team of his decision to leave after the 2026 season.
“The 28-year-old had informed the club at the end of the season that he did not see his future career at Northamptonshire and, despite discussions to reverse that decision, he will now leave the club,” Northamptonshire said in a statement.
Reflecting on his time with the club, Zaib described it as an honour to represent Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.
“It’s been a real honour to represent Northamptonshire CCC,” Zaib said, as quoted by the club. “Especially as the club has been such a big part of my life for so long. I’ll always be grateful for the memories, friendships and experiences I’ve had along the way.”
He also thanked the club’s supporters for their continued backing.
“To the supporters, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support you’ve shown me over the years. It’s meant so much to me, and sharing those special moments with you is something I’ll always treasure,” he added.
Meanwhile, a report by ESPNcricinfo stated that Zaib is set to join Hampshire, who will be looking to secure promotion back to Division One after being relegated this season.
Hampshire have already signed Rishi Patel from Leicestershire and Fynn Hudson-Prentice from Sussex as they look to strengthen their squad following the red-ball retirements of James Vince and Liam Dawson.
Zaib, 28, was the leading run-scorer in the County Championship Division Two in 2025, amassing 1,425 runs in 14 matches at an average of 64.77. He scored six centuries and seven half-centuries across 23 innings during the season.
He continued his strong form in 2026, scoring 856 runs at an average of 42.80, including three centuries and five half-centuries.
Zaib also featured for Southern Brave in The Hundred. The all-rounder is currently playing in the Nepal Premier League and has also appeared in the Canada Super60 tournament.
