India has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in West Asia, confirming that 22 Indian nationals, including 14 seafarers, have lost their lives in the violence so far.

Addressing a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Wednesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government remained in close contact with the Indian community in the region to support their safety and well-being.

“On the question of the total number of people who we have unfortunately lost in the war in West Asia, as I have told you before, we are deeply concerned with the ongoing conflict in West Asia. So far we have lost 22 Indian nationals in the conflict, which includes 14 seafarers, and on our part we remain in close touch with the community there so that we can do our best for their safety and well-being,” Jaiswal said.

He added that three Indian nationals had lost their lives in Saudi Arabia so far.

Earlier, on October 16, India had advised its nationals in Saudi Arabia to take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing situation. The advisory urged Indians to move to the nearest safe location, such as inside a building or an interior room away from windows, in the event of an aerial attack.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia also cautioned the community against filming, publishing or sharing information, photographs or videos related to the ongoing events.

In a statement posted on X, the Embassy said its officials continued to visit hospitals where Indian nationals were receiving treatment. They were also maintaining regular contact with the affected individuals’ families and providing necessary assistance.

India has also condemned attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, describing them as “unacceptable” and expressing solidarity with the Kingdom in defending its sovereignty.

During an earlier media briefing this month, Jaiswal expressed hope that peace and normalcy would return to West Asia soon. He said the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia remained in regular contact with the Indian community and continued to issue advisories in view of the evolving situation.
