UNITED SIKHS Urges Uber to Reconsider Rejection of Temporary Driver’s Licences in California and New York

New York, October 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

UNITED SIKHS has formally urged Uber Technologies, Inc. to review and reconsider its reported refusal to accept valid temporary driver’s licences issued by the states of California and New York from applicants seeking to work as drivers.

In a letter addressed to Uber’s legal and executive leadership, the organisation raised concerns that qualified applicants holding valid state-issued driver’s licences and federal Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) were allegedly being denied work opportunities despite meeting the applicable legal requirements.

According to UNITED SIKHS, multiple applicants have reported that their applications were rejected solely because their driver’s licences were temporary. The organisation argues that Uber can verify the validity of such licences through official channels, including state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) records and other verification methods.

UNITED SIKHS said it first raised the issue with Uber in March 2026 and is now seeking clarification and a review of the company’s practices.

The organisation pointed out that California law permits qualifying temporary driver’s licences to be used to operate motor vehicles for a specified period. New York also issues temporary licences to eligible drivers while they await their permanent documents.

UNITED SIKHS maintains that the temporary nature of a licence should not, by itself, prevent an otherwise qualified applicant from accessing driver opportunities when the document is valid and its status can be independently verified.

The organisation also highlighted the circumstances of applicants who possess valid Employment Authorization Documents issued by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). These documents confirm their authorization to work in the United States.

According to UNITED SIKHS, denying work opportunities based solely on documentation that applicants may be unable to obtain because of limitations involving government agencies can unnecessarily restrict access to employment for qualified workers.

UNITED SIKHS reiterated its commitment to advocating for fair employment opportunities and equal treatment for all qualified workers. It is calling on Uber to review the reported cases, clarify its document-verification requirements and reconsider its approach to applicants presenting valid temporary driver’s licences.
