Amritsar, October 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Amritsar Development Authority (ADA), through the District Town Planner (Regulatory) wing of PUDA, demolished two unauthorised colonies in Amritsar district on Thursday for allegedly continuing development work despite notices issued under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act (PAPRA), 1995.
The action was carried out in accordance with Punjab Government guidelines and on the directions of ADA Chief Administrator Nitesh Kumar Jain, IAS, and Additional Chief Administrator Inayat, PCS.
The Regulatory Wing conducted the demolition drive in the presence of police officials from Kathunangal police station. The action targeted an unauthorised colony being developed in Pakharpura village along the Amritsar–Pathankot Road and another colony being developed along a link road in Dayalpur village.
Officials said notices had previously been issued under PAPRA, 1995, directing the developers to stop construction and development activities at both sites. However, the colony owners allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and continued the work. Taking note of the violations, the authority carried out demolition action against both colonies on October 22, following directions from senior officials.
The officials further stated that amendments made to PAPRA, 1995, in 2024 provide for imprisonment ranging from five to 10 years and fines ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 5 crore for those involved in developing unauthorised colonies. The authority is also writing to the Police Department to initiate action against the landowners and developers concerned, based on revenue records.
The ADA Regulatory Wing appealed to the public to verify the legal status of any plot or land before investing their hard-earned money. Prospective buyers have been advised to check the approvals issued by PUDA and confirm that a colony is duly authorised before purchasing a plot.
Officials also urged buyers to consult the list and details of unauthorised colonies available on the Amritsar Development Authority’s official website to avoid financial losses and unnecessary legal complications.
The authority clarified that obtaining the necessary approvals from PUDA and the relevant competent authority is mandatory before developing a new colony or undertaking construction anywhere in the district. Residents have been urged to follow the prescribed legal procedures for property transactions and construction activities.
