Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the Vijayadashami celebrations organised by the Shri Ramlila Committee Indraprastha at the DDA Utsav Ground in IP Extension, Patparganj, where he participated in the traditional Ravana dahan ceremony and highlighted the enduring cultural and moral significance of Ramlila.

Addressing the gathering, Modi paid his respects to Lord Shri Ram, Mother Janaki and Bajrangbali and extended his heartfelt Vijayadashami greetings to the nation.

“Today, every corner of India is imbued with the spirit of Lord Ram—in every village and every city. The entire nation is immersed in the spirit of the Ramlila,” he said.

The Prime Minister described the widespread staging of Ramlilas as a living tradition that keeps the ideals of Lord Ram alive. He said the tradition symbolised the end of tyranny and terror and reaffirmed the belief in the eternal triumph of truth over falsehood.

“For us, this is not merely a festival. It is the life force of India,” Modi said, emphasising that Vijayadashami represents the victory of good over evil and reflects the strength of the country’s civilisational values.

Linking cultural heritage with national progress, Modi said a nation could advance only when its people possessed self-respect rooted in their heritage.

He highlighted efforts to restore India’s cultural treasures, noting that more than 650 ancient artefacts and idols had been brought back to the country over the past 12 years. He also referred to recent UNESCO recognitions, including Diwali’s recognition as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Prime Minister called for unity of thought and purpose among institutions and political parties in the national interest. He urged citizens to identify and confront those seeking to undermine the country’s honour, divide society or promote hatred towards its culture.

Drawing inspiration from the ideal of Ramrajya, Modi spoke of a system free from discrimination, where justice prevails, equal opportunities are available to all, and the welfare of the poor and marginalised remains the highest priority.

He also stressed the importance of self-reliance, hard work and confidence in one’s own potential as essential elements in achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The celebrations drew large crowds, with Modi’s participation in the burning of Ravana’s effigy symbolising the victory of dharma over adharma. His address combined an emphasis on India’s cultural traditions with a call for collective resolve in addressing contemporary national challenges.
