Actor Arjun Bijlani has reflected on the significance of Dussehra, saying that overcoming self-doubt, staying true to one’s values and continuing to believe in oneself are among life’s greatest victories.
The actor believes the festival’s message extends beyond the triumph of good over evil, offering lessons in personal growth, patience and resilience.
Speaking to IANS, Arjun said he had become more patient over the years and learned that not every situation required an immediate reaction.
“I think I’ve learned to be more patient over the years. Not every situation needs an immediate reaction. Experience teaches you to stay calm, trust the process, and focus on what you can control. For me, personal growth is about becoming a better version of yourself every day,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey in the entertainment industry, the Naagin actor said success rarely followed a straight path and that consistency and self-belief were essential to navigating difficult phases.
“My journey in this industry has taught me that success is never a straight line. There are good phases and challenging ones, but consistency and belief in yourself are what keep you going. I’ve learned that setbacks don’t define you, your response to them does,” he added.
Arjun described overcoming self-doubt and maintaining faith in himself through different stages of life as one of his biggest personal victories.
“The industry comes with uncertainties, but staying positive, holding on to your values, and continuing to do what you love is a victory in itself. For me, that’s the true spirit of Dussehra,” he said.
The actor also stressed the importance of empathy in today’s fast-paced world, encouraging people to be more mindful of the challenges others may be facing.
“I would say empathy. We’re so caught up in our own lives that we sometimes forget to understand what others might be going through. A little kindness can make a huge difference. At the end of the day, how you make people feel is what truly matters,” he said.
Arjun added that portraying morally complex characters had helped him develop a deeper understanding of human behaviour. He said such roles had taught him that people could not simply be categorised as good or bad, as their experiences and circumstances often shaped their choices.
