Washington, October 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Indian-American voters are drawing attention in key US election contests, with a social media post by a Texas voter criticising what he described as rising xenophobia and racial resentment gaining widespread traction, while more than 500 Indian Americans gathered in New York to support Democratic Representative Tom Suozzi’s re-election bid.

A post on X by an account named Vasant Bhatt received around 857,000 views, 7,300 likes and 3,000 replies within seven hours of being published on Monday.

“I just cast my ballot for James Talarico. As a second-generation Indian American, I am thoroughly disgusted by the xenophobia, racial resentment, and increasingly brazen attacks on my identity,” the post said.

The author described his family’s contributions to the United States through hard work and sacrifice, asserting that he was as American as anyone else and urging eligible Texans to vote. The post also attracted criticism from right-wing accounts. Conservative commentator Patrick Casey highlighted the author’s reported past internship with Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

Talarico is the Democratic nominee for the US Senate in Texas, which has large Indian-American communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metropolitan areas.

The episode comes amid heightened political debate over immigration and H-1B visas, with both major parties seeking support from Indian Americans, a community that has traditionally leaned Democratic but has increasingly attracted attention from Republicans as well.

In New York, more than 500 Indian Americans assembled in Uniondale to support Suozzi, who represents the state’s 3rd Congressional District on Long Island. Community leader Varinder Bhalla compared Suozzi with former Representative Stephen Solarz, known for his advocacy of stronger India-US ties in Congress.

The 2026 AAPI Voter Survey found Indian-American voters favouring Democratic Senate candidates by 66 per cent to 18 per cent, although the sample specifically covering Indian Americans was small.

Early voting is under way in Texas ahead of the November 3 election. Indian-American participation is being closely watched in suburban constituencies where narrow margins could prove decisive. Both parties have targeted Asian-American voters, the fastest-growing group of eligible voters in the United States, including through outreach in Hindi, Gujarati and Telugu.
