Amritsar, October 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will organise special programmes to mark the 450th anniversary of the founding of Sri Amritsar Sahib in 2027, while seminars and kirtan congregations will be held at various locations to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji.

The proposals were discussed at meetings of the SGPC’s Dharam Parchar Committee and Sikh Itihas Research Board, chaired by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.

Providing details of the deliberations, Dhami said the 450th anniversary of Sri Amritsar Sahib’s founding would be commemorated in accordance with Khalsa traditions. To mark the occasion, the Sikh Itihas Research Board will prepare a book featuring research-based articles on the establishment of the holy city.

The meetings also decided to undertake a special initiative to preserve records of anniversaries commemorated in connection with Sikh history. Details of past commemorative programmes, historical documents and Panthic gatherings held at different times will be compiled and preserved in book form for future reference.

Another initiative will focus on documenting historical photographs preserved in the Sikh Reference Library. Information about the dates and locations of the events depicted, along with the identities of the personalities featured, will be recorded as part of the effort.

During the Dharam Parchar Committee meeting, members also emphasised strengthening religious outreach, with particular priority given to spreading the teachings of Gurbani and the Gurmat philosophy.

The committee approved special seminars and kirtan programmes dedicated to the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji. The events will seek to connect devotees with his bani and life philosophy.

On the occasion, SGPC president Advocate Dhami formally presented to the sangat an illustrated book on Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, prepared by scholar Dr Harpreet Kaur.
