Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers on the organisation’s Foundation Day, praising its contributions to nation-building, social harmony and public service as it marked 101 years since its establishment.
The RSS is observing its 101st Foundation Day on Vijayadashami, the Hindu festival celebrated as a symbol of the triumph of good over evil.
In a post on X, Modi extended his greetings to swayamsevaks and paid tribute to those who had contributed to the organisation’s growth over the years.
“Today, on the special occasion of RSS Sthapana Divas, my greetings to all Swayamsevaks. I also pay homage to all those greats who have nurtured the RSS over the years,” the Prime Minister wrote.
“The RSS has completed a remarkable century of service, nation-building and social harmony. Countless Swayamsevaks have worked for society with a deep sense of duty and a nation-first spirit,” he added.
Modi expressed hope that the organisation’s commitment to service and national development would continue to strengthen the country in the years ahead.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended greetings to RSS volunteers, describing the organisation as the world’s largest cultural organisation and praising its commitment to the nation.
In his post on X, Adityanath said the RSS regarded the nation as a deity, society as a family and service as worship. He highlighted its emphasis on national devotion and collective responsibility, describing these values as part of an enduring journey towards the greater glory of the country.
Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed the organisation’s annual Vijayadashami rally in Nagpur, where he outlined its ideological perspective on India’s growing global stature and its potential to contribute to resolving complex international challenges.
Bhagwat emphasised that India’s traditional wisdom and ideological heritage would play an important role in shaping its future as a leading global power.
He also highlighted the importance of swabodh, or self-awareness, noting that the spirit was reflected in the Preamble to the Indian Constitution.
Founded by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on September 27, 1925, the RSS traditionally observes its Foundation Day on Vijayadashami according to the Hindu calendar.
The organisation’s annual celebrations bring together its volunteers for programmes highlighting its founding principles, organisational activities and vision for the country.
